“It’s very important to take risks. I think that research is very important, but in the end, you have to work from your instinct and feeling and take those risks and be fearless.” Anna Wintour – Artistic Director Conde Nast
Today’s journal entry is something I hope you will be seeing a lot more of…Branding Clients. We have been brand photographers for about 4 years now and have recently changed our title to specialists. Although the world didn’t know this up until last year. You see, we take the integrity of this career and business very seriously. If we are going to share with the world that we are something, we will make sure we can provide the best service and experience to our clientele. It’s about patience and refining those skills. We announced it last year, and then in the slew of the shutdown, the commercial clients from all different industry’s came flooding in! With this came growing pains and even more reflection on where this part of our career will take us. What kind of clientele do we want to serve? We are not generalist photographers, we are specialists in our craft, so when we do work with our clients, we know precisely how to deliver on those expectations. So we may grow their business and assist them in gaining their ideal clientele. Pretty intimating stuff!
Through the growing pains and reflection, we were able to hone in the structure we needed. I know you’re probably thinking, why are you talking about this? The title of this journal entry is Collado, not April & Mike’s brand clientele journey… Well, that’s where Miss Talitha Collado comes in. She is certainly not a new face around here. First, she was my industry-best friend, then she became my real-life best friend, and now she is officially one of those ideal clients I was talking about!
Over the past few years, we have grown our businesses together; we have had late-night talks on dealing with different business avenues and maturing our brands while we both were maturing as women. Not only will this branding for Collado Custom Cosmetics propel Talitha forward into gaining those clients that she’s been reaching for, but it also helps make her name known in the beauty industry as not a boss lady or boss babe, but the boss.
Branding is all about romance. You need to get to know your brand by honestly going out on a date with it. Just as chefs treat ingredients with respect and floral designers treat each petal with gentleness like a mother’s touch. There is romance in every industry, and if you can find that and expand on that, you will draw in that ideal clientele you’ve been longing for.
Now, Talitha, being with you on this journey is by far the most significant career highlight thus far! While I was editing your gallery, hell even driving home from your shoot, I was wiping away tears of admiration for how far this business of yours has grown and how grateful I feel for being a part of it! I said it before, and I will say it again… someday your cosmetics will be in the biggest cities of the world and I can see us now sipping cocktails in each of those cities during the reveal parties! The name Collado will be up in lights and be as classic as Chanel No. 5.
xx, April
